When Winged Creatures

Walked on water

Beasts of Burden

Floated to heaven

Meant the world to us

Was it mythology like

Pegasus, or Zeus?

Psalms or Aesop’s Tales

Fabled Reflections

In the River Nile

The Color Brown

Climbing out of that mud pit

I reach for the sun and a stray root

Against the brown dirt sky

When water starts falling from above

In the form of a curse

I steady my footing again -straining,

Reaching up

But this time my fingers are crushed

Under a determined weighty soul
